Close up, the edible shows itself as material: seam, crust, grain, the edge a hand left behind. Nearness is unforgiving; whatever was approximate shows at once. Immersive rooms and long evenings ask for distance. Objects held alone ask for the opposite, and these entries keep it.

Each piece begins with a single decision, settled before anything else is added. Ground, cut, stacking order or covering: one of these comes first, and the rest answers to it. Broken too wide, a crisp no longer sits between the fingers; set a fraction off its axis, a stack will not stand.

Candle flame is held low, a monochrome ground removes colour, and dark linen takes in every edge. Light is chosen for the material in hand. Every entry holds something made to be eaten, multisensory in its hour. Form remains in the record; taste stays with whoever was present. Afternoons and evenings end; what outlives these edible art creations is the sequence, read from the first number forward.
